What Jack LaLane and Camber Hill Have In Common

I had four things in common with the legendary guru of fitness, Jack LaLane.

1. Jack passed away  Sunday, January 23rd 2011 at his home in Morrow Bay, California. In 1979 I rented a shack on the beach in Morrow Bay. At the time, I was nineteen and found my self at peace living and breathing the smells of the Pacific Ocean.

2. Jack was a vegetarian. (he had been since 1929) I’m a vegan.

3. He made a big splash here in Long Beach, California when with a rope in him mouth, he pulled something like 40 boats, as he swam. LaLane wanted to prove, being over 40 wasn’t “over the hill”. I live in Long Beach, I’m over 40 and my last name is Hill…okay those tidbit are a bit of a stretch?

4.Last but certainly not least, I’m fortunate to be friend's with Dewey Martin. Dewey Co- starred in the motion picture Big Sky, staring Kurt Douglas. Deweys been friend's with Jack since they meet on the streets in Hollywood in 1950. Jack said “Dewey and his wife were family, not just friend's”. (Dewey was once married to Peggy Lee) Today I visited briefly with Dewey and his heart was heavy with grief, but as usual he remained a pillar of pure positive energy.

So to Jack LaLane, may you rest in peace and thanks for contributing so much to my fabulous life.

Camber Hill
